Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has accepted the government’s invitation to lead one of the all-party delegations traveling abroad to convey India’s strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism. The move comes amid India’s coordinated diplomatic efforts following the Pahalgam terror attack and the launch of Operation Sindoor. Shashi Tharoor emphasized his commitment to serving the nation whenever called upon, highlighting the importance of unity and collective representation on matters of national security. These delegations, consisting of leaders from across the political spectrum, aim to present a united front internationally, countering narratives surrounding cross-border terrorism and reinforcing India’s resolve.

Broad-Based Delegations for Unified Messaging

The central government has planned to send seven all-party delegations to key partner countries, including members of the United Nations Security Council. This strategy seeks to demonstrate India’s consolidated national consensus on tackling terrorism in all its forms. The parliamentary affairs ministry announced that these delegations will carry India’s resolute position on zero tolerance toward terrorism to the international community, underlining the country’s determination to combat threats from across its borders.

Leaders chosen to head these delegations come from diverse political backgrounds, reflecting the nation’s commitment to bipartisanship in addressing terrorism. Alongside Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, prominent figures include BJP MPs Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, JD(U)’s Sanjay Jha, DMK’s Kanimozhi, NCP’s Supriya Sule, and Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde. The inclusion of members from both the ruling National Democratic Alliance and the opposition INDIA bloc exemplifies the collective political will to maintain national security as a priority beyond party lines. Experienced diplomats will also accompany each delegation, ensuring effective communication and engagement with international counterparts.

Shashi Tharoor’s Response and National Unity

Expressing his honour at being entrusted with this responsibility, Shashi Tharoor shared on social media that he is ready to step up whenever the nation’s interest demands it. He stressed the need for unity and cohesion, particularly on critical issues such as counter-terrorism. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that these delegations symbolize national unity transcending political differences. Rijiju underlined that these visits are a reflection of India standing together at crucial moments, sending a powerful message of collective resolve to the world.

This diplomatic push underscores India’s strategy to strengthen its international narrative and seek global support in the fight against terrorism, following recent security challenges. Through this united approach, India aims to highlight the threats it faces and reaffirm its commitment to peace and security at home and abroad.
