Mitchell Owen is an Australian cricketer who made his debut in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on May 18, 2025. Punjab Kings (PBKS) have selected him as a replacement for injured Glenn Maxwell. Mitchell Owen is a 23-year-old Tasmanian all-rounder from Hobart. He is right-handed bat and medium-pace bowler. He started his professional cricket career with Tasmania in domestic cricket and Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL). At 1.94 meters, he is tall and strong player who can turn the game with bat and ball.

 

Owen's Big Bash Breakthrough

 

 

Owen enjoyed an outstanding season in the 2024-25 BBL. He began as a middle-order batsman but developed into a solid opener. He amassed 452 runs at a top-class average of 45.20 with a staggering strike rate of 203.60. He completed two centuries, one of them a 39-ball hundred, the quickest in BBL history, and another match-winning 108 in the final. His batting took the Hobart Hurricanes to their inaugural BBL championship.

His Career in the PSL

 

Prior to his stint with PBKS, Owen had represented Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Although he played lower-order, he amassed 101 runs and bagged two wickets from seven games. His game time was restricted by team combinations, yet he again demonstrated his potential as a team player.

 

Mitchell Owen's T20 Career

 

In all, Mitchell Owen has represented teams in 36 T20 games. He has scored 647 runs and has picked up 10 wickets. His attacking batting, capability to play big shots, and useful bowling make him a good commodity in the shortest game format.

 

Mitchell Owen's IPL Debut

 

 

Punjab Kings acquired Owen at Rs 3 crore in place of Glenn Maxwell. His performances in the BBL and PSL in the recent past made him an obvious pick. Although he is young, he has a massive potential that will be hoping he can make a huge difference in IPL 2025 for PBKS. However, in his debut innings against , Owen lost his wicket for a two-ball duck.
