IMD weather warning: Extremely heavy rainfall in Assam, Meghalaya; Alert issued for Delhi-NCR, UP, Bihar and more states

The India Meteorological Department ( IMD) has issued a strong weather warning for multiple states, highlighting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds in several regions.

Assam and Meghalaya hit by extreme rain
Parts of Assam and Meghalaya recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated locations experiencing extremely heavy downpours. In Silchar (Assam), rainfall reached 42 cm, one of the highest in the region.

Rainfall in northeastern states

Heavy to very heavy rain was also recorded at isolated places in Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. States like Manipur, Mizoram, Kerala, Odisha, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal also experienced heavy showers in some areas.


Strong winds and thunderstorms
Thunderstorms with squally to gusty winds were reported in many parts of the country.


Haryana and Punjab: Winds reached speeds of 70–90 kmph in isolated areas.

Himachal Pradesh, Saurashtra & Kutch, Jharkhand, Madhya Maharashtra, East & West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Konkan, Marathwada, Assam & Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, West Madhya Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Northeast states: Winds ranged between 40–70 kmph.

Hailstorms reported
Hailstorms were observed in Jammu & Kashmir, and in isolated areas of Punjab (Patiala) and Haryana (Bhiwani).

People advised to stay alert
The IMD has urged people in the affected regions to stay indoors, avoid travel unless necessary, and follow local advisories due to the risk of flooding, falling trees, and travel disruptions.
