Mumbai: A 50-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his younger sister to death over a property dispute on Friday. The accused has been identified as Ashish Karandikar, who is unemployed and lived with the victim, Anvya Karandikar-Paingankar, who was a private school teacher. Notably, the latter was taking care of the accused's kids.
As per the police, Anvya, 45, her husband, Ashish and the sibling's mother resided in a chawl in Vile Parle West. A discussion was ongoing regarding the chawl's redevelopment, which often led to arguments between the duo, said the officials.
On Friday around 8.15am, a quarrel erupted again between them and in a fit of rage, Ashish allegedly repeatedly stabbed Anvya with a knife in the stomach, causing serious injuries. She was rushed to Cooper Hospital in Juhu, where she was pronounced dead.
A police officer said, “The siblings had an ongoing dispute over family property. Their father had passed away a few years ago. The accused's wife had left him and his mother and sister were taking care of his children. The victim did not have any children.” The Juhu police have booked Ashish for murder.
