The Charkop police have registered an FIR against a 19-year-old college student and his 23-year-old brother for allegedly physically assaulting a traffic police constable.
Although the police have not disclosed the identities of the accused, they confirmed that both were released after completing the necessary legal procedures following the registration of the FIR. As per the police, constable Mandar Jadhav, is attached to the Kandivali traffic division. On April 3, Jadhav noticed a two-wheeler rider without a helmet. He stopped the scooter and asked the rider to produce a helmet and a driving licence.
The 19-year-old youth who was riding the scooter, neither wore a helmet nor possessed a valid driving licence or vehicle documents. When the constable asked him to pay an e-challan for the traffic violations and pending fines, the youth refused.
The constable then moved the scooter to the side of the road. At that point, the youth and his elder brother started arguing with the constable and allegedly assaulted him using a set of keys. As a result, Jadhav sustained facial injuries.
