There couldn’t be a better time than now — when the rains have cooled the heat, and the earth is still damp — to launch a unique spirit that truly embodies India.
Bedrock whiskey, a handcrafted blend inspired by India’s natural, earthy terrain, is the latest offering from the makers of Earth Rustic Spiced rum. The whiskey, which has hit the shelves, is currently available exclusively in Goa.
Bedrock whiskey is aged in a unique combination of American Oak and Sherry casks, the Scotch components matured for five years, while the Indian malts aged three years. This carefully balanced maturation process has created a whiskey that is well-rounded and complex, with deep, earthy notes.
Bedrock is a reflection of spirit, where tradition meets innovation, reveals Sachin Bhamri, founder of Surbhi Wines.
Sachin Bhamri, Founder, Surbhi WinesBedrock whiskey was born out of a deep desire to craft an Indian whiskey that reflects the land. It’s raw, grounded and full of character. It’s a whiskey that’s not trying to replicate global trends, but rather one that confidently stands on its own ground.“Bedrock whiskey was born out of a deep desire to craft an Indian whiskey that reflects the land. Priced at Rs 1,600 a bottle, Bedrock whiskey undergoes an exclusive triple stone filtration process, ensuring a smooth and refined character.
While explaining the process, Sachin says, “This meticulous filtration through quartz sand, limestone, basalt and activated carbon enhances purity while preserving the whiskey’s intricate flavours, making Bedrock a rock-solid choice for connoisseurs and explorers of fine spirits.”
This home-grown, premium whiskey draws inspiration from India’s unique climate and cultural . It is distilled in Goa’s coastal heat and aged in Maharashtra’s highlands; its tropical climate accelerates maturation, resulting in a whiskey with a distinct, earthy richness that sets it apart from traditional Scotch and international spirits.
Speaking about the launch, Sachin says, “India is rich in diverse cultures and agricultural practices, yet regional whiskey variations are underrepresented. There is much potential to create whiskeys that reflect the terroir, history and craftsmanship of different states or regions.”
As homegrown craft spirits continue to rise in popularity, there is an increasing demand for authenticity — products that embody their origins rather than merely imitating global standards.
Just as American whiskey forged its unique identity instead of copying Scotch, India’s whiskey industry now stands at a pivotal moment.
