In images shared on their social media, feed, the 34-year-old revealed that the image he shared was similar to his profile picture on MySpace during his teenage years. Ditching his famous appearance, this star rocked a black hair do with a Naughties style sweeping black fringe and even a lip piercing.
But fans can fear not – used his new look to promote , Azizam and it appears that this marketing tactic has worked. The singer who famously has red messy hair and often wears cargo trousers and t-shirts completely transformed himself.

Instead, his new black locks were covered by a beanie as he wore an oversized black hoodie, t-shirt and still managed to find a way to wear his cargo trousers but opted for black ones. However, he did tease that his fake lip could become a permanent feature on his face in the near future.
"Fake lip piercing but might just do it, yolo," he said on his page. Captioning his upload, Ed penned: "Azizam promo week selfie dump, choose your fighter," while sharing a string of photos taken over the past week.
"Get a lip piercing stud for the fun of it pls," said one fan on his post. But they were not the only fan who was won over by Ed's new look. A second commented: "Emo Ed is literally my favourite Ed, please make this become a real thing for at least one music video." Meanwhile, a third went on to say: "Emo Sheeran wasn't on my bingo card today but slay."
"We need emo music to make a comeback," wrote another. Ed's new look came after he surprised people in central London last Friday with an impromptu performance outside Kings Cross station. Promoting his new single, the red head looked worlds away from his emo look with a bright pink t-shirt as he performed in front of a pink heart with the word Azizam written across it.
Performing for shocked onlookers, he belted out some of his biggest hits including Shape Of You, Bad Habits and Perfect. But that wasn't the only surprise he had in store for fans. Over in America, Ed transformed his look as he performed on a busy New York subway platform.
A video posted on microblogging platform X, formerly known as quickly gained attention, showing Ed disguised in a black hoodie, large sunglasses, and a wig that completely hid his famous red hair. His "emo" look was completed with black cargo pants and a grey beanie.
Despite his undercover appearance, his distinctive tones and undeniable talent were unmistakable, drawing in a crowd who happily sang along to his acoustic cover of Chappell Roan's mega hit Pink Pony Club. One fan even wrote: "Ed Sheeran disguised as an emo boy singing Chappell Roan in the subway, they really did this for me."
After unveiling his true identity, Ed left fans in amazement with many instantly realising that he was promoting his new single as a fan account tweeted: "Azizam in the NYC subway!!! New Ed Sheeran album imminent, he's popping up in random places again. Azizam marks Ed's first single since the release of his 2024 track, Under the Tree, which failed to reach the dizzying heights of his previous success.
The track landed in at Number 55 on the Official UK charts, a stark contrast to his previous hits which include an impressive 10 Official UK Number One tracks.
