It was so long ago when Liverpool last won the title at Anfield, that their fans had transistor radios glued to their ears. In a time before the internet, yet alone smart phones, this was the best way of keeping up to date with breaking news in 1990.
And the events Liverpool fans were focused on were at Villa Park as their nearest rivals, Aston Villa, faced Norwich. When John Barnes converted a second-half penalty to give Liverpool a 2-1 comeback lead, it was still not enough for the title because Villa were beating Norwich 3-1.
The supporters got the news they wanted when Norwich striker Robert Rosario equalised seven minutes from time. The Kop told Bruce Grobbelaar when he came to retrieve the ball and the news spread like wildfire around Anfield, which only held 38,000 back then.
The drama was not over at the final whistle and Anfield had to wait four minutes before it was confirmed that Villa had drawn, handing Kenny Dalglish’s side the crown. Those events were 35 years ago on Monday and the .

Houses around the city were decorated with bunting, banners and scarves like VE Day come early. For Reds this is exactly what it was and this was Victory in England day.
Inside the mood was just as frenzied and seldom has Anfield ever heard such a rousing rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. Virtually every Liverpool supporter was wearing red, be it this season’s jersey or whenever, and some wore replicas from the 1977 and 1981 European Cup finals.
The party was briefly interrupted when Tottenham had the temerity to take a 12th-minute lead through former Red Dominic Solanke. But the fun resumed four minutes later when Luis Diaz’s strike was ruled onside by VAR and Anfield erupted.
The noise levels went up another few decibels when the excellent Alexis MacAllister fired Liverpool ahead before Cody Gakpo netted just after the half hour mark. “Hand it over Manchester,” sang the fans and they knew the title was heading back to Anfield for a record-equalling 20th time.
With the game and title won, the Kop became a giant jukebox, playing all the best Reds tunes and they belted out “Ee, aye, addio, we’re going to win the league” and “Arne Slot, na, naa, na, na, na”.
It was fitting when Mohamed Salah cut in front the left to score the fourth, with his 33rd goal of the season and his 27th in the Premier League, and no player has contributed more than him to Liverpool’s success.
Salah fell to his knees and kissed the ground at the final whistle as Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa’s ‘One Kiss’ belted out. Fireworks went off behind the Kop into the clear blue sky and the best Liverpool title party for 35 years started.
