Manchester United head coach has confirmed will miss the rest of the season. The Dutch forward picked up an injury in the weekend defeat at and will play no further part this term.
"Joshua is out for the season," Amorim told reporters ahead of United's match against Lyon on Thursday. "He is not going to play anymore this season. We must prepare him for next season. It is hard for any player to stop, but it's football. He has to be ready to recover."
Zirkzee, , has played a part in each one of United's games this term. However, he limped off in the second half against Newcastle with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old has also featured in all but one of United's 11 Europa League outings this term. He scored in , but Amorim will need to make do without him for the home leg - and indeed for any further European action if United progress.
Amorim will also be without the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Amad and Matthijs de Ligt for Thursday's game. However, Dutch centre-back De Ligt is expected to be back before the end of the season.

"He is going to return before the end of the season. He has some pain," Amorim said of De Ligt, who last featured for United in their defeat against on April 1.
"He finished the game against Nottingham Forest. He is really working hard, he is a tough guy. We hope to have Matthijs in the next weeks."

United drew the first leg 2-2 in France. Goals from Leny Yoro and Zirkzee put them in front heading into stoppage time, only for goalkeeper Andre Onana to gift the hosts an equaliser.
Onana missed Sunday's trip to Newcastle, with Altay Bayindir playing in the 4-1 defeat. Amorim confirmed Onana will return on Thursday, though, with defender praising the Cameroon international.
"I think first and foremost, Andre has proved in the past that he is an excellent goalkeeper," Maguire told reporters. "He has won numerous trophies. But you always have spells in your career where you have ups and downs.
"At the moment, he is probably feeling that everything is going against him. Playing in front of Andre is great; I have confidence in Andre. We all know he is an excellent goalkeeper."
