TV BAFTAs 2025: Gavin and Stacey reunion as Alan Cumming pushes for fishing trip answers

Gavin and Stacey fans were treated to a cast reunion as part of the 2025 TV BAFTAs on Sunday. The long-running sitcom reached a satisfying conclusion on the on Day last year after first airing in 2007.

On Sunday night, the cast of the comedy series descended on London's Royal Festival Hall to cheer on show co-creator Ruth Jones who stood to win the Best Female Comedy Performance award for her role as Nessa Jenkins. She was joined by fellow co-creator James Corden and a number of other stars.

The last ever episode, titled The Finale, was also nominated in the Memorable Moment category for the scene Smithy's Wedding: Mick Stands Up. With the cast in attendance, award show host honed in on the cast to try to get to the bottom of an unresolved plot point that ran throughout the series.

Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon, who played Bryn West, was at the ceremony alongside his castmates. Throughout the show, an awkward encounter was teased relating to Bryn and his nephew Jason that saw them left traumatised by events that occurred off screen during a trip.

Alan pounced on Rob to demand to know what had happened, begging: "Please answer it for us now. Uncle Bryn, what actually happened in that camping trip?”

But it appears it is a mystery that will never be solved, as Rob teasingly replied: “I never talk”. Alan also appeared to joke about the plot point never being resolved.

He swiftly moved ahead with the awards, saying: “Oh, sorry, Rob. We’ve got to go straight on with the next award. We’ll pick it up at next year’s Bafta."

Later in the show, Ruth succeeded in winning the award. She said as she accepted her gong: “I’m not going to lie this is immense."

Thanking the man who helps her write the series, she gushed: “The person I would like to thank most his my dear, dear talented friend James Corden.”

She said without British actor Corden “Vanessa Shanessa Nessa’ Jenkins would not exist”, as their final instalment of the show brought to a close the love story between his character and hers.

Fans praised the final episode of Gavin and Stacey when it aired at the end of last year. And while it is not expected to return, there are hopes a spin-off could be created to fill the void for fans.

Earlier this year Larry Lamb, who plays Mick Shipman on the show, claimed he cornered BBC boss Tim Davie and tried to convince him to commission a spin-off movie based on the show.

He told the Daily Star: “You’d make all the money over again... Well, he’s the boss of the BBC. You don’t give the game away, do you?”

He added: “From the look on his face it was either: ‘That's not a bad idea,’ or: ‘I wish these people would stop trying to do my job for me. They can barely do their own.’''
