This 10-part mini-series is leaving viewers 'in awe' and it's now streaming on . The Pacific was released in 2010 and set in during World War 2. It follows the lives of US Marine Corps during a campaign against the Japanese empire.
The show's synopsis reads: "Robert Leckie, a local sports journalist, enlists in the United States Marine Corps, promising to write to a female neighbour, Vera. A doctor's son, Eugene Sledge, also wants to enlist, but he has a 'heart murmur' as told by his father, and his friend, Sidney, enlists without him." The Pacific was made by the creators of Band of Brothers, and treads a similar line of thought to outline the hardships of the common man during the brutality of war.
The series was directed by a group including Tim Van Patten, David Nutter, Jeremy Podeswa, Graham Yost, Carl Franklin, and Tony To. It stars James Badge Dale, Ashton Holmes and Josh Helman among many others.
It first premiered on HBO in America and Canada and instantly received widespread critical acclaim.
Rotten Tomatoes audience reviews awarded it 91%, while the critics gave it 89%, stating: "An honest, albeit horrifying, exploration of World War II, The Pacific is a visually stunning miniseries not for the faint of heart."
Described by a reviewer on IMDb as "brutal but epic", the series left another reviewer "in awe", they wrote: "What a cinematic achievement. The best of the best of what American entertainment has to offer. The scenes and emotions portrayed are so vivid and lifelike that you'll think you've been transported back in time to the pacific theater of war."
A google reviewer said: "The Pacific is arguably one of the greatest war series ever made. It's brutal, cinematic, tense, tight, consistently gripping and incredibly acted."
"Hands down without a doubt the greatest war depiction captured in a show. Yes, it has the action and expertly crafted battle scenes. More importantly though, was how they captured the utter human experience being put in a war zone, and not just any, but the massively hellish Pacific Theatre of War," another added.
