Viktor Gyokeres will prioritise a summer transfer to Arsenal over Manchester United as both Premier League clubs target his signature, according to reports. However, the Sporting striker has offered his former coach, Ruben Amorim, a glimmer of hope ahead of a crucial climax to a difficult season.
Arsenal and United will be among the European heavyweights searching the striker market to upgrade their attacks this summer. Gyokeres is one of a host of names strongly expected to be on the move, including Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap. And the Gunners are believed to have the upper hand on their rivals in the race to sign the Sporting superstar, despite his outstanding relationship with Amorim.
According to the , Arsenal's new sporting director, Andrea Berta, has placed Gyokeres at the top of the club's summer transfer plans.
Berta attempted to lure the 26-year-old to Atletico Madrid when he helmed the La Liga giants' football operations, and his interest hasn't dwindled.
That is no surprise, given Gyokeres' immense record of 52 goals in 48 appearances for Sporting in all competitions this season.
His prolific exploits follow on from a similarly fruitful maiden campaign after Amorim brought him to Lisbon from Coventry City in 2023.
And while Arsenal are considered ahead in the running, it's claimed that Gyokeres hasn't closed the door on a potential reunion with his ex-boss.
The report adds that the Sweden international has told Amorim that he would consider joining him at Old Trafford if there is Champions League football on offer.
United are rotting in 15th in the Premier League with three games remaining, but they can dramatically seal qualification by winning the Europa League.
The Red Devils hold a 3-0 advantage over Athletic Club ahead of Thursday's semi-final second leg at Old Trafford. Tottenham Hotspur or Bodo/Glimt would await in the Bilbao final on May 21.
Amorim and Gyokeres are said to share a good relationship, but as it stands, Arsenal are the favourites for his signature this summer.
RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko is reportedly an alternative for the Gunners, while they could reignite their winter interest in Aston Villa frontman Ollie Watkins.
Their interest in Alexander Isak is also no secret, and the report describes him as Mikel Arteta's dream if the reality of the situation weren't a factor.
Newcastle United are expected to price out any of the 25-year-old's suitors, especially if they qualify for the Champions League.
