Akshay Kumar's Hera Pheri Was Stopped After 90% Shooting For This Reason

Akshay Kumar, the Bollywood superstar, is currently going through a tough phase as he has given string of flops and he badly needs a hit at the box-office. However, this is not the first time that he is going through tough times and earlier also he has seen such phase. In an interview, the moviemaker Suneel Darshan recalled his experience of working with Akshay Kumar during one such phase.

Suneel Darshan said that during that period, many people from Bollywood were not willing to work with Akshay Kumar and it was then Suneel decided to work with the actor in “Jaanwar”.

In the interview, Suneel Darshan said that he was highly impressed with Akshay’s punctuality but there was another aspect to take into consideration. In his words, “There was a problem. He had had many flops during that time and many of his prominent films had been halted midway. Like Hera Pheri, the film was shot 90 percent and then it was blocked. Dhadkan, four reels were made but it was also halted.”

Suneel Darshan said that despite the flops, there was something special about Khiladi Kumar, “I signed Akshay and I told him that work will only happen on my terms.”

Suneel chose Karisma for the female lead as he said, “I told Karisma that there will be two problems. One is that I won’t be able to pay you as much money as you get from others. And the second thing is that Akshay is the hero. She said no problem, your company is our company. Her mom Babita also said that we would love to keep working with you.”

Suneel Darshan mentioned that Akshay’s career was in a challenging phase, with “no distributor wanting to touch his film”. Despite this lack of industry support, Suneel recognised Akshay’s potential and chose to take a significant risk on him. He recalled a moment when Akshay, after another box office failure, opened up about a painful experience with a producer. Suneel said, “Akshay came to me and he almost had tears in his eyes. He told me that he had asked another producer why they hadn’t put up a banner of his film and they told him ‘tumhari aukkaat nahi hai ki tumhari film ka banner lagaya jaaye.’ I got nervous looking at his nervous face. I got the biggest banner in Juhu with just Akshay’s face on it. The man who was a liability for everyone, I knew he would be my asset.”

Suneel Darshan also shared that the film “Jaanwar” found success in some regions. He highlighted a memorable moment from a party, reflecting on the film’s impact. Suneel Darshan said, “Yash Johar told me that if someone can make Lalu Prasad Yadav lose in Bihar then it’s me. Jaanwar was the biggest blockbuster in Bihar’s history and in 25 centers, the film worked for 100 days.”

The movie also starred Shilpa Shetty, Shakti Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, etc. in important roles. Hopefully, Akshay Kumar will once again start giving hits at the box-office.
