The 2024 MAMI Mumbai Film Festival kicked off with a packed screening of Payal Kapadia's Cannes Grand Prix-winning film All We Imagine As Light on Friday. The star-studded evening also saw legendary actor Shabana Azmi being honoured with the prestigious Excellence in Cinema Award. Held at the iconic Regal Cinema in South Mumbai, the festival’s latest edition launched in style on Friday night. On Day 2 of the festival, Shabana Azmi and Vidya Balan engaged in a chat about films. During the chat, she revealed doing her 1st TV show Anupama and how her mother preferred Amitabh Bachchan's quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati over her TV series.

During the chat, she recalled being a part of her first TV show Anupamaa, "When I was doing my first serial - it was a serial called Anupama and it was made by Himesh Reshammiya. At the time I said why not try this medium, and then we got to know that we were doing it for a channel called B4U. And we realised that we don't have enough slots, the only time we could get was when Amitabh Bachchan was performing (Kaun Banega Crorepati) KBC. So my real mother, who has given birth to me, I said 'Mummy, you know there is going to be a clash. She said ' Main toh tumhari picture dekhungi nahi. Amitabh Bachchan ke saamne tum smajhte ho ki teri picture dekhungi (laughs). (I won't watch your show. I would prefer Amitabh Bachchan over your TV show) . She added , "And that was the end of me trying anything at television at all." ALSO READ:Next, Shabana is seen asking Vidya Balan, "Have you done anything?" and Vidya responds, "I won't dare. I've been approached for a couple of plays where I don't have the courage to say yes. To which, Shabana adds 'We'll work together." leaving the audience hooting. Vidya Balan jokingly shares, "I can play mute," Shabana responds, "Even to play mute you will have to do a lot," To which Vidya replies, "Or I can be sleeping on stage.
