Kanpur: Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Tuesday carried out its anti-encroachment drive over drains and nullahs in all the six zones of the city, removing more than five hundred temporary and permanent constructions made on drains or nullahs.
The mayor and the municipal commissioner Sudhir Kumar are taking effective action through a joint encroachment campaign to provide relief to the people of the city from problems of water logging and jam. The enforcement squad operated in zone-1 and demolished around 150 temporary encroachments from Lucknow gate to Murray Company bridge, 25 temporary encroachments from Mehfil restaurant to Bhagwat Das ghat and 50 temporary constructions from Elgin Mill to Khalwa crossing.
Similarly, in zone-2, three permanent constructions were demolished at Marcharia Rajiv Nagar New RN Hospital to Barkati mosque. The team desilted and cleaned the nullah from Virendra Swarup School Shyam Nagar to Railway crossing.
Around 146 tin sheds, ramps, jhuggis, platforms and tattar constructions were demolished in zone-3.
In the morning, the KMC squad started the drive from Machli Wala Hata to Lal Imli crossing and demolished around 80 permanent constructions, 25 tin sheds, 15 shanty shops, ten permanent and 40 temporary tattars, ten tarpaulin sheds, two liquor shops, two dosa shops and removed around 100 hoardings, cut-outs and banners, seizing 15 tables and chairs.
Around 55 temporary and 15 permanent structures, ramps raised over nullahs were razed in zone-4.
The squad demolished 24 permanent and 54 temporary constructions and realised around Rs 12,000 as user charges at Ambedkar Nagar. The district administration and the police dispersed the crowd which was opposing the anti-encroachment drive.
Mayor Pramila Pandey and municipal commissioner Sudhir Kumar directed all zonal officers to ensure that at those places where encroachment has been removed should be made accessible to the public, and that encroachment should not take place again under any circumstances.
