Bollywood’s classic cult movie ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ had a much-awaited re-release in theatres today (April 25). The film features Bollywood icons Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, alongside Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Shakti Kapoor, and Paresh Rawal in key roles. It was Salman Khan’s decision to re-release the movie, as he did not support the idea of a sequel.

During a recent interview with Lehren Retro, one of the daughters of the late producer Vinay Sinha shared the backstory behind this decision. She had worked with Salman as an executive producer for the film Ready in Sri Lanka. The ‘Tiger 3’ actor initiated a conversation about ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, and she mentioned the possibility of a sequel.

She stated, “So unhone baat shuru ki ki ‘kya soch rahe ho tum log about Andaz Apna Apna’. Maine kaha ‘bhai, we are thinking about a sequel or something’. He said, ‘Arey arey, sequel ki baat mat karo, kaun kitna kya le jayega. Na tumhe milega kuch, na mujhe milega kuch.’”

Salman suggested she consider a re-release first and then plan for a sequel. “Usko ache se master karo and do it in Dolby, kyunki uss time toh mono sound hua karta tha,” she added.

She then approached her father, Vinay Sinha, and informed him of Salman’s suggestion regarding the re-release. He agreed to consider it. What followed was a meticulous restoration process—the film was scanned in 4K resolution and remastered with Dolby sound, significantly upgrading the original mono audio experience.

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, 'Andaz Apna Apna' stars Salman and Aamir as Prem and Amar, respectively. The movie was originally released in 1994.
