In 2020, Jaan Kumar Sanu, son of singer Kumar Sanu, appeared on Bigg Boss 14. During the show, he shared that his parents separated when his mother was six months pregnant with him, and he was brought up by his mother alone.

Raised Solely by His Mother

Jaan Kumar Sanu, son of renowned singer Kumar Sanu, shared on Bigg Boss 14 that he was raised solely by his mother. He revealed that his father had left when his mother was six months pregnant, and since then, she had taken on the responsibility of both parents throughout his childhood.

Second Marriage and Children

Kumar Sanu was first married to Rita Bhattacharya in the 1980s, and they had three sons—Jiko, Jassi, and Jaan Kumar Sanu. The couple divorced in 1994. During their strained marriage, Sanu was in a six-year relationship with actress Kunika Sadanand, though the two later separated.

Later, Kumar Sanu married Saloni Bhattacharya, and they have two daughters—Shannon K, a Bollywood playback singer, and Annabelle Kumar Sanu, a songwriter and author. Known for his iconic '90s hits like Chura Ke Dil Mera and Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain, his presence in today’s music scene is less frequent.

Recent Songs and Career Gap

Kumar Sanu last sang Dard Karara in the 2015 film Dum Laga Ke Haisha, and later lent his voice to the 2018 Aankh Maarey remake in Simmba. Reflecting on his absence, he told Hindustan Times that while people still admire and love his songs, he’s unsure why his voice isn't used more often in Hindi films.

Public Love but Industry Silence

He further expressed that he often wonders why, despite receiving so much love and respect from people face-to-face, he isn’t given more singing opportunities. He admitted feeling unsure if the admiration is genuine but acknowledged that the respect he receives is undeniable.

He also questioned why filmmakers don’t consider him for songs despite his continued ability to sing. Highlighting his ongoing popularity and sold-out shows, he said there is still strong public demand for his voice. He plans to bring new live shows in October and November, adding that if the industry understands this, it’s great—if not, it’s their loss.
