CHENNAI: A 43-year-old man and his teenage daughter who tried to abandon a suitcase carrying a dead woman were caught at Minjur railway station on Monday after a commuter called police on seeing blood oozing out of the bag, reports Sindhu Kannan.

Police said the man from Nellore had murdered his neighbour, identified as Mannam Ramani, 65, on Sunday night for her gold ornaments, and stuffed the body in a suitcase and brought it to Chennai. The father and daughter took a MEMU train to Chennai and got down at Minjur station. They dragged the trolley bag and left the bag on the platform. Police identified the accused as Balasubramaniam, a goldsmith, and his daughter, 17. The RPF man made Balasubramaniam open the suitcase, and people around were shocked to see a woman's body. Police sent the body for postmortem.

Korrukupet railway police, which registered a case of murder, said the case would be transferred to Nellore police.
