SRINAGAR: General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, on Wednesday briefed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha about the prevailing security situation in the Union Territory and recent developments along the Line of Control (LoC) and other border areas, a day after briefing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about the same.
This is the first time the CM has been briefed about the security scenario in J&K. The briefing to the CM assumes significance as in J&K UT, the CM doesn’t deal with security and law and order issues as they don’t fall under his purview. Earlier, the Army would apprise the Lt Guv about the security situation in J&K, as well as along the LoC and international border.
CM Omar said Lt Gen Sharma had called on him Tuesday for the briefing. The Northern Army Commander was accompanied GOC 15 Corps Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava. “Our forces are doing a commendable job in protecting the nation,” Omar said.
