Maharashtra polls: BJP releases first list of 99 candidates; deputy CM Fadnavis to contest from Nagpur South West

NEW DELHI: The Bhartiya Janata Party ( BJP ) announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections on Sunday, featuring 99 candidates.

The key names on the list include current deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis from Nagpur South West, and BJP State president Chandrashekar Bawankule, who will contest from Kamthi.


In related developments, the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra concluded discussions on approximately 260 seats during a marathon meeting at Union home minister Amit Shah’s official residence in Delhi, which extended into the wee hours of Saturday.

According to the agreement reached by alliance leaders, the BJP is set to contest around 155 seats, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena will receive approximately 85 seats, and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will be allocated 45-50 seats.

In the previous assembly elections, the BJP fielded candidates in 260 constituencies, winning 122 seats in 2014 and 105 seats in 2019, solidifying its status as the largest party in the state.

The Election Commission of India has announced that voting for the Maharashtra Assembly elections will take place on November 20, with results expected to be declared on November 23. The current term of the Maharashtra Assembly is set to expire on November 26.
