PM Modi reviews Odisha's Cyclone Dana preparedness in call with CM Majhi; evacuations under way

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, concerned about the upcoming cyclone, spoke with Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi twice over the phone. The conversation focused on the state's preparedness for the approaching cyclone, which is anticipated to make landfall between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra after midnight.

According to a statement from the CMO, during their discussion, the chief minister informed the Prime Minister about the ongoing evacuation and relocation efforts, as well as the deployment of response teams like the NDRF and ODRAF to ensure public safety. PM Modi expressed satisfaction with the state's preparedness.

Additionally, Union minister Amit Shah assured the chief minister of all necessary assistance and support after discussing the situation, the CMO noted.

As per the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department, the severe cyclone 'Dana' had moved north-northwestward over the past six hours at a speed of 13 km/h. It was centered approximately 90 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 110 km south-southeast of Dhamra (Odisha), and 210 km south of Sagar Island.
