NEW DELHI: The All India Congress Committee ( AICC ) on Friday lodged a fresh complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner, alleging that Odisha governor Raghubar Das is actively participating in the ongoing election campaign in Jharkhand, which the party claims is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct .
This is the second complaint from the Congress on the matter. The letter, addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner, stated, “In continuance to my letter dated 23-October (Ref 76/2024), this is to bring to your notice again that Raghubar Das, governor of Odisha, continues to campaign for his daughter-in-law, Purnima Das , contesting from 48, Jamshedpur East, on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.”
The Congress accuses Das of attending booth committee meetings and distributing materials in Jamshedpur East, where his daughter-in-law is running as the BJP candidate .
“It is also brought to your kind notice that as per the information received, the governor of Odisha Raghubar Das was found participating in election booth committee meetings in east Jamshedpur constituency and was found distributing various materials in the public,” the complaint read.
The AICC raised concerns that the governor ’s actions blur the line between his constitutional role and active involvement in partisan politics. The party urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to intervene, stressing that “the above act of the governor of Odisha establishes a major concern that has been highlighted by me via various press conferences hence there is an urgent need for Election Commission of India to intervene.”
In light of the alleged ongoing violations, the AICC requested immediate intervention, stating, “In light of the above circumstances and my repeated complaints, I request to issue appropriate directions to restrain Raghubar Das from such participation in active politics.”
