Jajpur: A woman was reportedly abducted by an auto-rickshaw driver after she hailed a ride home from work. The incident escalated into a gang rape, followed by a brutal stabbing, as per police reports.
The crime took place on the night of April 22 in Jajpur, Odisha, but only came to light recently when the woman, in her late 20s, was able to file a complaint after her health improved.
Upon entering the auto-rickshaw, she discovered two men already inside. Instead of heading to her destination, the driver diverted to a remote area on the town's outskirts, where three additional intoxicated men were waiting, according to her statement to the police.
The assailants restrained her using her dupatta and proceeded to assault her. They inflicted multiple stab wounds before fleeing the scene, leaving her for dead.
Fortunately, she managed to attract the attention of a passerby who contacted her family. She was subsequently rushed to the Jajpur district headquarters hospital, where she was treated for severe injuries to her back, hands, and palms.
Authorities have initiated an investigation and registered a case. Inspector Sarat Chandra Patra of the Jajpur Town police station confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend all individuals involved in this heinous act.
